WritingThe writing used by the ancient Kushites has been given the name Meroitic. To this day, historians have a very difficult time trying to decode this complicated language. For this reason, it was very difficult to get an idea of what life was like for the people of Kush. This form of writing was used to record religious and government documents. The fact that this written language has not been solved is what causes the history of the Kingdom of Kush very vague. Only major events are able to be understood such as the takeover of Egypt.

ArtBecause of the lack of comprehendible writing, the discovery of ancient art of the Kushites was very important. it gives us insight on what daily life must have been like. The Kushite people made jewelry and wove cloths. But the most popular type of artwork was pottery. The unifying theme through out all of the artwork produced in the Kingdom of Kush was its connection to nature.

CultureWhile the women were busy making jewelry, pottery and cloths, the men were commonly out practising archery. Archery was very important to the Kushites and chiefs were often decided based on this. Using Archery, The kingdom of Kush was able to build up a strong army. They even were able to conquer Egypt for a short period of time.
