From the begin, the kingdom of kush had a polytheistic religion. this is because the area was controlled by Egypt until the kingdom developed. They shared some gods with the Egyptians such as Amon-Re and Isis. However they also added there own gods:
+ Apedemak- god of war
+ Sbomeker- god of creation.
One of the most important places in the religion of the Kushites was Jabel-Barkel. This was a mountain that many Kushites made a pilgrimage to. this ancient tradition still carries on today.
As the years past, the kingdom began to loose its ties with Egypt. Christian missionaries traveled to the kingdom and began teaching Christianity by telling stories from the Bible. The majority of people converted and it became the first Christian Kingdom in Africa. Any challenges faced by the Kushites were brought to the temple and offered up in prayer to God. The Kushites did not worship their leaders like many other empires. The religious beliefs of the Kushites brought them together. The people would tell each other Bible stories they had heard from the missionaries that traveled to their land.
